About Borborbor Songs & Dance Group In Ghana
Borborbor is a Ghanaian and Togolese traditional dance performed by the Ewe people from the mid-Volta region of Ghana and Southern Togo including Kpalime and Lomé. The dance is performed especially during the festival of the chiefs and people of communities.This dance is believed to have been originated by Mr. Francis Kudzo Nuatro in the 1950s.
It is an undisputed fact that needs be said that wherever ten or more people from Awesome meet somewhere far away from their home villages or towns one of the first things they will discuss will be how to form a borborbor group. The items needed by them only needs to be two or three drums, a pair of local castanets and the inevitable bugle and they are in serious borborbor business. They do not even have to compose any songs. There is a large array of classic borborbor songs to pick from.
The Ewedome are the Ewes occupying the middle parts of the Volta Region as distinct from the southern or coastal Ewes many of whom are also known as Anlos and the Avenors. Nothing is compared to Ewedome “borborbor. Take borborbor away from the consciousness of an Ewedome person, and he ceases to be his real self. The borborbor dance is now played at most public gatherings including the Church.
Nobody exactly knows when borborbor started but one account places its origins in Wusuta, a village on the Volta Lake, One thing that is certain in the development of this music form is the enormous work done by the late Kpando citizen, Francis Nuatro, who, almost singlehandedly transformed the music to the popular thing that we know today. When the history of borborbor is mentioned Mr Francis Kodzo Nuatro cannot be forgotten.
